Madrid, November 24, 2023.- Madrid in Game, an initiative of the Madrid City Council, was born with the purpose of positioning the city at another level on the international gaming stage and elevating its status within the global video game industry, thereby attracting investment and creating quality employment. 2023 has been a key year for the Madrid industry, which has showcased, in some of the sector's main venues globally, the ambitious commitment of the city council to the video game industry.
With the aim of promoting and boosting the Madrid gaming ecosystem beyond our borders, Madrid in Game has been presented in some of the industry's benchmark cities throughout the year. In its first year, the initiative has participated in the world's major gaming fairs such as the Tokyo Game Show, the Games Developer Conference in San Francisco, Reboot Developers Conference in Croatia, Gamescom in Cologne, and the Nordic Games Conference in Malmo, Sweden.
At these events, the progress achieved so far at the Video Game Campus has been showcased, demonstrating the potential of the initiative and the city's projects for the sector, and supporting entrepreneurs from the Start IN UP Program, Madrid in Game's entrepreneurship program (3 startups presented their projects at Gamescom in Cologne). Among the objectives of this international tour are presenting Madrid's commitment to the video game industry to the world, seeking foreign investment, and attracting industry-leading companies to establish themselves in the capital and join the ecosystem initiated by the Madrid Game Cluster.
London, Buenos Aires, and now Miami, the final destination of Madrid in Game in 2023
In 2023, commercial/institutional agendas were also carried out in markets of interest such as London and Buenos Aires, where a delegation composed of representatives from the Madrid City Council and Madrid in Game scheduled valuable and interesting meetings with prominent companies, developers, and associations in the British and Argentine gaming sectors.
Regarding the visit to the Argentine city, official visits were made to the Buenos Aires City Council and to relevant companies that have a presence in Madrid and great potential for further growth, such as the Argentine unicorn and member of the Madrid Game Cluster, Globant. Additionally, meetings were held with other incubation and acceleration projects such as BA Gaming in Buenos Aires in order to seek synergies and create an international network of incubators to implement best practices in all markets.
Likewise, meetings were held with Venture Capitals and investment funds specialized in the sector to invite them to the upcoming Investor's Day to be held by Madrid in Game, where they could learn in detail about the startups that are part of the Start IN Up Program, Madrid in Game's entrepreneurship program.
Another purpose of these visits has been to attract internationally renowned figures in the sector to the Video Game Campus. A notable example was the presence of Sir Ian Livingstone, co-founder of Games Workshop, who visited Madrid to participate in a breakfast with sector experts and tour the Video Game Campus facilities. During his visit, he had the opportunity to meet the entrepreneurs of the Start IN UP Program at the Development Center.
During these meetings and encounters, the initiative was presented with the aim of building bridges, generating synergies, and showcasing the attractiveness of the capital abroad as a reference point within the video game and gamification industry. With this purpose, Madrid in Game will travel to Miami on November 29, a crucial gathering on the East Coast of the United States where it will meet with over thirty companies to showcase the potential of the city of Madrid as a hub of the industry.
In the words of the Councilor for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Ángel Niño, "international promotion is a magnificent opportunity to show everything we are doing and achieving through Madrid in Game," noting that "it is great news to see how this firm and innovative commitment to the video game industry is admired in other countries, with administrations willing to collaborate and replicate our model, and with entities and entrepreneurs interested in coming to Madrid to enjoy the initiatives we offer".
